Columbus Metropolitan Library: Dublin Branch
Dublin, OH
Public gathering places—such as parks, plazas, open spaces and landscapes—are critical and often underutilized elements of engaged communities, significantly contributing to the connected nature of a neighborhood or city. The civic plaza at the Columbus Metropolitan Library’s Dublin Branch reinforces the library building’s contemporary theme while creating a new and exciting community amenity that contributes to the transformation of the city of Dublin.
Intended to serve as a community gathering and event space, the plaza features a monumental stair and commissioned artwork that celebrates the site’s history and culture as the city's first schoolhouse. Street and canopy tree plantings help define the plaza as an outdoor “room” or extension of the library while providing shady respite during the warmer months, and rain gardens are utilized to decrease and filter the rainwater runoff from the building.
