Thermal Energy Center
Redmond, WA
As sustainability increasingly becomes a driver in the design of corporate headquarters, companies are investing in materials and methods that go beyond typical energy reduction strategies. At a new headquarters, a confidential tech company is tapping clean energy deep underground using an unusual ‘machine in the woods’ to support its sustainability goals and provide heating and cooling for its campus.
The 3-million-square-foot campus uses hundreds of geothermal wells to heat and cool the new buildings with an untraditional clean energy source: the constant temperature below the earth’s surface.
