Shasta County, New Redding Courthouse
The design of the American courthouse is changing as rapidly as the judicial system itself. Located at the heart of the civic center in Redding, CA, the Shasta Courthouse serves as a new symbol of justice in the community, embodying the permanence of a civic building while being inviting and accessible to all.
Expressed architecturally as two forms linked by a skylight, a formal six-story tower houses courtrooms, chambers and administration while the lower scaled pavilion includes the lobby, security and jury assembly. The design prioritizes access to daylight and mountain views, with bright public spaces and thoughtfully planned seating and gathering areas throughout.
Features
A timeless and durable material palette supports the need for the building to serve its function over the next 50-100 years. The building's exterior features precast concrete with warm, granite tones and rich, coppery metal that reflects the color of Shasta's native soil.
