BlackRock Headquarters
The new BlackRock headquarters, like its home in New York City, is a place of ever-present connection. Inspired by the city’s active street grids and park system, the design balances collaborative spaces with areas of respite, prioritizing attention to detail at every scale. The result is a flexible, enriching workplace experience where people at all levels come together to collectively shape the organization's future.
Inspired by the idea of “One BlackRock”—a diverse global company unified in its commitment—an egalitarian design ethos is embedded throughout the space. A recurring “starry night” lighting element encapsulates the idea of unity, while the trading floor is surrounded by expansive, daylit social spaces.
The design also includes innovative flexibility features including 14-inch raised floors, under-floor power and data and air distribution, demountable partitions, wireless lighting and reconfigurable furniture. Since opening, the company has successfully re-stacked its workforce multiple times without significant cost or construction.
Features
At the center of the workplace is a “Central Park,” which connects the building vertically and horizontally. Consisting of collaborative spaces that support large group, small group and individual work, “Central Park” is centered around a glass-enclosed staircase running through the middle of the floor. Each office floor is also anchored by two “Public Plazas,” which serve as social spaces with food amenities and informal gathering areas.
