American University of Beirut Medical Center (Halim & Aida Daniel Academic & Clinical Center)
Healthcare facilities are not typically designed with openness and transparency at the forefront. However, as one of the premier higher education and academic medical centers in the Levant and Greater Middle East, the Halim & Aida Daniel Academic & Clinical Center (ACC) needed to reflect the integration of academic and clinical programs while fostering “trust through transparency.” The resulting design combines the academic and ambulatory care programs in one building, enhancing the clinical, academic and research missions of the AUB.
The ACC houses a state-of-the-art simulation center for clinical training, multi-modal learning environments, exhibition space, numerous outpatient clinics, a same day surgery floor, and clinical and academic offices. An open facade architecture and a ground floor dedicated to public assembly and exhibition to promote visibility from the street communicate a new direction in thinking for the AUB Medical Center.
