NBBJ Releases Insights From a Global Survey About What Scientists Want in Research Buildings
Understanding what scientists want and need in their built environment is at the heart of designing better research buildings—ones that support wellbeing and engaging experiences, perform sustainably, and adapt to changing needs. Yet there haven’t been comprehensive surveys that explore scientists’ relationships with their research spaces. That’s why NBBJ partnered with The New York Academy of Sciences, one of the oldest and largest scientific societies, to survey scientists and find out what they need and want in their research buildings.
The results of this partnership explore the work habits and preferences of 1,059 scientists across North America, Europe and Asia. With 65% of scientists responding that building design impacts where they chose to work, the survey sheds new light on creating spaces scientists want—exploring the importance of collaborative space, proximity to colleagues and wellbeing.
