Uplift Podcast: To Take Care of Us, We Must Take Care of Them. Design to Support the Healthcare Workforce.
SCROLL DOWN TO LISTEN
Burnout among healthcare workers is well-documented, and the pandemic placed a national spotlight on this crisis. Previously, designing spaces for well-being focused on the patient, but the physical and psychological safety of healthcare workers—and mitigating the cost of turnover—is now a top priority.
On this episode, we're joined by Karen Grimley, Chief Nursing Executive at UCLA Health in Los Angeles, CA, and Dr. Steven Bird, Chief Experience Officer at UMass Memorial Healthcare in Worcester, MA, as well as NBBJ's Teri Oelrich, who is also a nurse. We discuss the causes of burnout and how designs that contribute to the well-being of the healthcare workforce are necessary to support their mental health and curb financial fallout of high turnover.
