Quadram Institute
The Quadram Institute is unique in bringing food and gastroenterology researchers, clinicians and scientists together under one roof for the first time. To create a pleasant and cohesive environment and unite these disparate groups, the project’s energy-efficient design puts “science on show” with visual connections from office to lab, while still maintaining a hierarchy of public-to-private space.
The clinical research facility and patient treatment areas are more private to protect patients’ and participants’ confidentiality, whilst the research space is open to showcase the science within. The building provides distinct areas to each department, as well as the shared office space, meeting rooms and amenities fundamental to creating a truly translational facility.
Features
The feature stair fosters collaboration between researchers and offices, and atrium-facing balconies providing space for informal discussion and meeting. Large, glazed window openings provide excellent visual connectivity from office desk to laboratory bench, and between floors across the atrium lightwell
