Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Shapiro Center for Cardiovascular Medicine
Boston, MA
Healthcare facilities must prioritize flexibility and connectivity to provide the utmost care for their patients. The 350,000-square-foot Shapiro Center for Cardiovascular Medicine features 140 universal rooms, each of which can convert from a conventional inpatient to intensive care environment, three underground levels that house 12 operating rooms seamlessly connected beneath an active city street to the main surgical suites of the hospital, and a pedestrian bridge that links the building to the original hospital campus.
Designed in collaboration with architect of record Cannon Design, the state-of-the-art, LEED Silver-certified Shapiro Center projects the confidence and optimism of current medical technology, while reducing the institutional nature of hospital visits with a warm environment that emphasizes patient care.
Features
Subtly fritted glass provides a unique pattern and brings generous natural light into each of the patient rooms.
