L.S. Skaggs Pharmacy Institute
Research hubs, especially those located within academic institutions, must be as forward-thinking as the science taking place inside. After completing a feasibility study, master plan and facility program for the University of Utah’s L.S. Skaggs Pharmacy Research Institute, NBBJ, along with EDA Architects, designed a new facility for translational research that prioritizes flexibility, efficiency and collaboration.
A four-story atrium links the new building to the existing Skaggs Hall and provides the college with a lively, interactive space for students and faculty to meet or socialize. Sustainability strategies reflecting the building program, local climate and massing are projected to reduce energy consumption by 23 percent and electrical consumption by 21 percent, or $7.5 million over 50 years.
Features
Informal areas adjacent to the labs encourage impromptu discussions and the cross-pollination of ideas between students and faculty.
