With NBBJ's help, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is on a path to safely and efficiently operationalizing its new Advanced Health Sciences Pavilion.

The Advanced Health Sciences Pavilion consists of a Heart Institute, Neurosciences Institute, Patient Services Center and Procedure Center, all integrated for translational medicine and to improve the patient experience. Cedars-Sinai engaged NBBJ to provide change management services to assist with the operationalization of this new facility.

The first project addressed the complexity of co-locating the operating room, interventional radiology, and catheterization lab within one procedure center. Change management services analyzed the floor’s strategy, structure, process, people and incentives to identify enablers and inhibitors of change. Out of this developed a hybrid management and operational model, as well as a transition road map for the organization.

Following the success of the first project, NBBJ developed operational plans for the Procedure Center, Heart and Neurosciences Institutes, and the Patient Services Center. The additional procedure volume required Cedars-Sinai to redesign the pre-procedure testing program to increase throughput and enhance the patient experience. NBBJ is also in the process of coordinating training and orientation activities, including a live simulation that will stress-test the facility and redesigned processes, along with increasing staff comfort.
