To Perform

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation recently moved into a new, 1.1 million-square-foot home in Seattle. The Foundation invited NBBJ to conduct a post-occupancy evaluation to assess how the new space was working.

The objective was to help the Foundation determine to what extent the new campus achieved its workplace goals and how effective the workplace strategy has been in enabling the foundation staff to do their best work. It was also an opportunity to identify areas for continuous improvement.

Data was collected using multiple research tools, and synthesized to surface key findings. The findings helped assess and articulate how the new campus supports the Foundation’s goals of inspiring engagement in the global mission, creating opportunities for interconnection, establishing a hub of creativity and innovation, and establishing a strong sense of community.

The evaluation helped the foundation understand the strategies and tactics it needs to deploy to leverage the potential of the space and inform future design.
