As a design principal in NBBJ’s Seattle office, Christian Carlson places the highest priority on two factors: a client’s identity and intent within their broader community, and a specific location within its broader environment. Christian’s design approach is rooted in storytelling and begins by drawing the project team and client into a rich dialogue of possibilities. He establishes an immediate and palpable partnership with clients that transforms thought into form. The resulting alignment and energy produces a richness and depth of expression that successfully answers each project’s unique needs.
For the past 25 years, Christian’s work, both independently and within large organizations, consistently emphasizes program-rich institutional and commercial projects. He draws from his experience as a fine-art painter to shed new light on meaning and creativity and their shifting position within the modern world. His portfolio includes award-winning medical centers, institutions and corporate headquarters, including The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in Seattle and Suning.com in Nanjing, China.
