APA Magazine: Resiliency Planning for Healthcare Systems and Beyond

As natural disasters become more prevalent, many healthcare systems turn to planning strategies to help mitigate potential disaster-related issues. Using University Medical Center and the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System in New Orleans as examples, NBBJ's Tom Sieniewicz and Kim Way outline several resiliency approaches in Planning, the magazine of the American Planning Association (APA). The strategies, categorized into three groups — planning solutions, architectural solutions and urban design solutions — are recommended not only for hospitals, but for communities and cities as well.
