Can Computers Design a Better World?

NBBJ Managing Partner Steve McConnell recently wrote for the World Economic Forum blog, where he discussed how architects can harness the power of computational design to build more sustainable, efficient and healthy communities. In the post, Steve shares NBBJ’s work on the Hangzhou Stadium, which used parametric design to reduce the amount of steel used in construction, as well as gives insight into how urban design is beginning to utilize these powerful tools.

“Computational design determines not just how to allocate resources,” he says, “but how to construct the social fabric of a city that is healthy, safe, meaningful and inspiring – that’s when this tool becomes truly transformative.”
