The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTUBH) may be the international arbiter of all things skyscraper, but many people know very little about this unheralded organization. On the occasion of the CTBUH certifying the height of One World Trade Center — 1,776 feet, making it the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere — NBBJ Partner and CTBUH Chairman Tim Johnson sat down with National Geographic to discuss the Council’s work as the record-keeper for skyscraper statistics.
“We know that man’s greatest achievements are cities, and the way that a lot of cities are identified is by their tallest building,” he said. And now, for the first time since 2001, New York has a new tallest on its skyline.
